ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS AQUIRES US RIGHTS TO XAVIER DOLAN’S CANNES JURY PRIZE WINNER MOMMY FROM SÉVILLE INTERNATIONAL

Montreal/London – July 22, 2014 – Séville International’s Vice President of International Sales Anick Poirier and Roadside Attractions’ co-presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff jointly announced the sale of the US rights to Xavier Dolan’s Cannes sensation MOMMY to Roadside Attractions.

From writer/director Xavier Dolan and producer Nancy Grant, MOMMY stars Anne Dorval (I Killed my Mother, Heartbeats), Antoine Olivier Pilon (Frisson des collines, Laurence Anyways) and Suzanne Clément (I Killed my Mother, Laurence Anyways).

Set in a fictional Canada, where a new law allows distressed parents to abandon troubled children to the hospital system, “Die” Despres, a feisty widow, tries to cope with Steve, her wild yet charming ADHD son.  While they both try to make ends meet and live under the same roof, Kyla, a mysterious neighbour, offers her help.

“We’ve been fans of Xavier from the beginning of his career and we are so delighted to be associated with such a talented writer and director,” said Poirier. “Mommy was an incredibly hot title for us and we couldn’t be more excited to see this special film find such a well-suited partner in the US.”

Cohen and d’Arbeloff add, “Xavier Dolan and star Anne Dorval have created nothing short of the most monumental on-screen portrayal of a  mother we've ever seen - a combustible, loving, go-for-broke mom that US audiences will love as much as we do."

Roadside Attractions will release MOMMY first quarter 2015.

eOne/Les Films Séville is handling direct distribution of the film in English and French Canada while Séville International had a very active Cannes and has now sold MOMMY to over 50 countries.

Launched earlier this year as part of Harold van Lier’s Entertainment One Films International (eOne Films International), Montréal-based Séville International continues to build on the company’s success with high-quality independent films from Québec and Canada as well as around the world. Poirier and her team have a strong line-up of independent arthouse films with crossover potential and award pedigree that includes the upcoming and MA MA starring Penelope Cruz, from Morena Films, among many others.

The deal was negotiated by Poirier for Séville International and Howard Cohen and attorney Greg Bernstein for Roadside Attractions.
