Entertainment One UK ends the year on a record high
London – January 2, 2013 - Entertainment One UK (eOne) is delighted to cap off a fantastic year as the UK's number one independent film distributor.
eOne posted their strongest gross to date with £81.66 million and a 6.9% market share, coming in ahead of long-time studio Paramount and marking the first time an independent has out-grossed a studio since 2007.
eOne has had numerous successes in 2012, not least with the final instalment of the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, which became the most successful film of the franchise yet and their biggest release to date, accumulating over £35 million in the UK and Ireland.
The year also saw notable success with acquisitions including Rian Johnson’s sci-fi thriller Looper and homegrown hits such as the sequel to burgeoning Christmas franchise Nativity!, Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger!, The Sweeney and The Angels’ Share - the latter becoming Ken Loach’s highest grossing film in the UK.
Alex Hamilton, Director of Film, Entertainment One UK says “Being number one indie again is good, but to finish ahead of a studio for the year is a real feather in our cap. Given we didn’t exist the last time an indie out-grossed a studio, it’s rather satisfying.”
