THE BOOK OF NEGROES To Open In Cannes As The World Premiere TV Screening Event
TORONTO / LOS ANGELES - September 4, 2014 - Entertainment One Television (eOne) is heading to MIPCOM next month with a stellar cast of notable and esteemed talent and producers from the new action-adventure series from Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Grindhouse), MATADOR and the highly-anticipated epic mini-series, THE BOOK OF NEGROES.
Buyers will have the opportunity to meet Gabriel Luna (NCIS: Los Angeles, Prison Break) and Nicky Whelan (Left Behind, Chosen, The Wedding Ringer) as well as producer Roberto Orci (Sleepy Hollow, Fringe, Star Trek and Transformers franchises) from MATADOR in addition to Aunjanue Ellis (Ray, The Help), Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire, A Few Good Men), Oscar and Emmy winner Lou Gossett Jr. (A Raisin in the Sun, Boardwalk Empire), award-winning author Lawrence Hill, director and co-writer Clement Virgo (The Wire) and executive producer Damon D’Oliveira (What We Have) from THE BOOK OF NEGROES.
From Executive Producer Robert Rodriguez and Roberto Orci, MATADOR is an exciting, action-adventure series starring Tony “Matador” Bravo, a DEA agent from East Los Angeles who has been recruited by the CIA to investigate the LA Riot soccer team by going undercover as one of their players. Tony will need the espionage skills to impress his handlers and fast footwork on the pitch, or the beautiful game could end in sudden death. The series features an international cast including Luna; Alfred Molina (The Da Vinci Code, Spider Man 2); Whelan; Neil Hopkins (Bones, True Blood); and Tanc Sade (The Gilmore Girls, 90210).
Based on the critically-acclaimed novel by Lawrence Hill, which has sold more than one million copies worldwide, THE BOOK OF NEGROES is a universal story of loss, courage and triumph, recounting the extraordinary journey of Aminata Diallo, an indomitable African woman who survives in a world in which everything seems to be against her. Kidnapped by slave traders in West Africa then sold into slavery in South Carolina, Aminata navigates her way through the American Revolution in New York, the isolated refuge of Nova Scotia and the treacherous jungles of Sierra Leone, before finally securing her freedom in England at the dawn of the 19th century. The mini-series is produced by Conquering Lion Pictures, Out of Africa Entertainment, eOne and Idlewild Films.
As previously announced, THE BOOK OF NEGROES was selected as MIPCOM's 2014 World Premiere TV Screening Event which is scheduled for Monday October 13th, doors open at 6:00pm in the Grand Auditorium of Cannes’ Palais des Festivals. The premiere screening will be followed by a Q&A session.
