Licensor Unveils Development of 117 New Episodes set to air from 2019 through to 2023
LONDON: 19th May 2017 - Entertainment One (eOne) today announces the start of production on a new series of Peppa Pig. The show’s award-winning animation studio, Astley Baker Davies, will be producing the new series, which will bring the total number of Peppa Pig episodes to 381.
New episodes from series 7 continue to roll out on air to the end of 2018. The 117 new episodes currently in production will then launch on air globally from Spring 2019, to co-incide with the brand’s 15th anniversary and will secure a pipeline of Peppa Pig content over the following four years.
“The popularity of Peppa Pig has always been underpinned by the outstanding content, which transcends geographical borders and is loved by audiences around the world,” said Andrew Carley, Head of Global Licensing at Entertainment One. “With a new series in the pipeline, best-in-class partners and strong marketing and experiential initiatives in each territory, we continue to nurture the long term success of this global preschool phenomenon.”
Following the tremendous box office performance of Peppa Pig My First Cinema Experience in the UK last April, which has so far generated £3.4million to date, eOne reports that toy sales in the UK continue to grow in 2017, with a 12% rise in growth year to date. The property now boasts 87 licensees in the UK and master toy partner, Character Options, is readying the launch of its new hero product, Peppa’s Family Home, which hits shelves in July 2017 and will be supported with a dedicated TV advertising campaign.
Outside the UK, Peppa Pig continues to be one of the leading girls preschool properties the U.S., Spain, Italy, France, Latin America, South East Asia and Australia, where the recent theatrical release grossed over $2.2 million at the Australian box office. The licensor welcomes new toy partner, DTC, in Brazil where a fresh line of toys will debut at retail from August. In Russia, licensing has accelerated at a significant pace and the licensing programme now has 40 partners signed across toys, games and confectionery. In China, Peppa Pig has generated more than 24.5 billion views on multiple SVOD platforms since the brand was first launched two years ago, providing strong consumer traction for the licensing and merchandising programme roll out of the brand this year.
Elsewhere, Peppa Pig merchandise recently entered new markets across the Nordics region where Character Options’ master toy line is being distributed by Top Toy and is currently enjoying strong retail sales. Further categories will follow in autumn/winter 2017 including bedding, puzzles and apparel.
