Multi-rights, multi-country, multi-genre agreement spans eOne robust library of content including The Newsreader, Family Law and Moonshine
London – January 3, 2022 – Entertainment One (eOne) and Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) have announced a multi-year, landmark agreement that will bring more than 700 hours of new and library content to viewers of NENT Group’s services in the Nordic and Baltic regions, Poland and the Netherlands. The milestone agreement is the largest deal-to-date between the partners and covers new countries from the Netherlands to Eastern Europe.
“Our ground-breaking agreement broadens significantly our longstanding relationship and offers another opportunity to showcase some fantastic new shows and classic library series in a wide variety of territories and markets alongside our partners at NENT Group,” said Spyro Markesinis, Executive Vice President, Sales, EMEA and Asia. “By delivering our expansive library to viewers of NENT Group’s services in their Nordic and international markets, we are committed to further cementing our position as a leading producer and distributor of highly coveted content that resonates with discerning audiences. We celebrate the ambition of NENT Group in expanding into new territories and are proud to be part of their journey.”
Brokered by Suzanne Flowerday-Nilson, Sales Manager for eOne, the acquired content included in the deal features strong international ratings performers such as the prime-time hit series The Newsreader, which recently captivated Australian viewers launching as the highest-rated drama series of the year-to-date on ABC; as well as new drama series Family Law and Moonshine. In addition, the agreement covers titles from eOne’s rich library of content featuring multi-season smash hits and fan favourites Private Eyes, Hell on Wheels, Saving Hope, Cardinal, Into the Badlands, Mary Kills People, Burden of Truth, Bitten, Ransom, Haven, Rookie Blue, Deputy and Between Two Worlds.
NENT Group is one of the world’s fastest growing streaming companies and its Viaplay streaming service is available in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. Viaplay will launch in the US in 2021 and the Netherlands and the UK in 2022, followed by Canada, Germany, Austria and Switzerland by the end of 2023.
Today’s announcement builds on eOne’s growing presence in the Nordics following a raft of recent content deals of more than 800 hours licensed across the region, bringing the cumulative total of sales to more than 1,500 hours. The independent studio continues to expand its reach in key territories across Europe, including the Nordics, with ongoing distribution agreements.
