Entertainment One and Iconic Entertainment Executive Tommy Mottola Announce Multi-Year Television Deal

Harlem High, set up at Freeform, marks first project under new partnership 

LOS ANGELES – October 23, 2018 – Global studio Entertainment One (eOne) announces today a multi-year, first-look deal with renowned entertainment industry mogul Tommy Mottola’s Mottola Media Group (MMG) for scripted and unscripted television programming. The announcement was made today by eOne’s Pete Micelli, Chief Strategy Officer, Film & Television, and Mottola.

Through the terms of the deal, Mottola will serve as an Executive Producer on all television projects and will leverage his industry and creative expertise and relationships to develop and produce original programming with eOne. eOne will serve as the studio and control worldwide rights for all projects. Mottola will also lend his wide-ranging artist and industry experience as a consultant for eOne’s music and live entertainment business.

Announced today is the first project under the deal “Harlem High” for Freeform. Created by Mottola, the scripted series follows the diverse students involved in a Harlem high school’s show choir that will be written by Sam Laybourne with Overbrook Entertainment producing alongside Mottola.

His ability to identify pop-culture trends and long track record of breaking records and staying ahead of the curve make him a strong magnet for talent and an incredible partner for eOne,” stated Micelli.

Former Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, Mottola currently heads the Mottola Media Group, a global media and entertainment company in New York City. In addition to news of the partnership, Jennifer Danska was today named Executive Vice President, MMG and joins from Talpa Media USA to oversee the day to day with eOne.


Mottola is credited with discovering and developing the careers of many of the world’s most iconic artists such as Hall and Oates, Carly Simon, John Mellencamp, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, as well as Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and Marc Anthony, as he forged a new global sensation by creating what in 1999 TIME Magazine called the “Latin Explosion”. Among his many accomplishments, he revitalized Sony’s publishing division by making such acquisitions as the Beatles catalogue and enabled Sony to become one of the first majors to make available commercial digital downloads. He is credited with tripling the company’s profits during his tenure, selling an estimated 8 billion CDs resulting in nearly US$65 billion in sales


Mottola is a NY Times best-selling author for his memoir, “HITMAKER, the Man and His Music” (Hachette 2013) and more recently has produced Broadway’s smash-hit musicals, Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, A Bronx Tale, Groundhog Day, Jersey Boys (off-Broadway) and the upcoming Clueless (off-Broadway) starring Dove Cameron and a highly-anticipated musical based on the life of Johnny Cash alongside producing partners Dodger Theatricals, as well as documentaries for HBO films entitled, "The Latin Explosion” and “15: A Quinceanera Story”.
